Stone Cutter
Buying Tips

When buying a stone cutter, there are three particular things to keep in mind:

Efficiency

Stone cutters for cutting concrete, asphalt and metal are available in many different sizes. Hand-held cutters are designed for easy transport and convenient operation and for cutting various types of materials in demanding environments. Especially when cutting in concrete, the machine is subject to highly abrasive dust, which is why it's important that the machine has a very efficient air purification system, to protect the engine. When wet cutting, much of the dust is kept down, and the life of the cutting disc is also increased because it is cooled.

Ergonomics

Stone cutters are some of the heaviest of the hand-held tools. That's why ergonomics and maneuverability are so important. Low weight, a slim engine body and low vibration levels are essential qualities. The handles are designed so the user holds the machine at approximately shoulder width, for comfortable handling, whether cutting horizontally or vertically. The belt tension and blade guard are easy to adjust, for improved efficiency.

Reliability

It’s essential that the engine is high quality. The cutting arm should be sealed against dust and water. Efficient air purification decreases the risk of internal wear and in combination with air filter compensation there is less risk of the work having to be interrupted due to a blocked filter.

Things to keep in mind when buying a stone cutter:

  • A good cutter should clean the intake air effectively.
  • The machine should have a good ergonomic design. Low vibration levels in the handles are essential.
  • The cutting arm should be able to be turned, for cutting up close to walls.
  • Check which accessories are available. For instance, is there a cutting trolley which is easy to mount the cutter onto, for long cuts in asphalt and concrete?
  • Easy access to spare parts. Husqvarna’s cutters have many parts in common with chain saws in the corresponding size.
