Saws for Tree Care and Pruning

A genuine tree care saw is also called a ’top handle saw’ because the handle for the right hand is located on top of the saw. This location gives the saw a compact shape so that it doesn’t get caught in the branches during use, or when it is being raised or lowered on a rope. It’s also easier to reach branches in tight spots. Tree care saws are intended specifically for climbing arborists or for work from cherry pickers.

For tree care and for pruning small dimensions from the ground, Husqvarna also has special saws that are small and light, with plenty of power in relation to their sizes.

Things to keep in mind when buying a saw for tree pruning:

  • How thick are the branches that I'll be cutting? Is it hardwood? The stronger the saw's engine, the longer the bar it can accommodate. Good acceleration and high speed are also important, to avoid tearing away the bark.
  • Will the saw be used by professionals, or is it for the do-it-yourself market? For pruning from the ground, or from up in the tree? For professional's work up in the tree, one of Husqvarna's tree care saws is suitable. For professional ground-based pruning, one of Husqvarna's XP saws with conventional handle placement is a smart choice, thanks to their high chain speeds.
  • Is the saw easy to start? Are the controls accessible? This is especially important if a professional is going to start the saw while up in a tree.
  • Does the saw have an ergonomic construction and design? Low vibration levels in the handles, a well-balanced saw body and smooth sides all help to make the job easier.
  • Is the saw easy to maintain and service? Are the air filter and the spark plug accessible?
  • Does the store provide service? Your saw will last longer if regularly serviced by a qualified professional. Your qualified servicing dealer can provide additional advice and tips regarding your chain saw purchase.
