Keep a steady grip on both handles on the saw. Thumbs and fingers must be completely wrapped around the handles. It is very important to hold the thumb of your left hand under the front handle in order to reduce the force of a possible kickback.
Don’t be afraid of the saw! Hold it close to your body for better balance and to make the saw feel less heavy.
Stand with your feet apart. Your left foot should be somewhat in front of your right.
Avoid working with a bent back. Instead, bend your knees when working in low positions.
The chain must not rotate when you are moving to another spot. When moving (more than 3 steps) you should activate the chain brake or turn off the engine. When moving a greater distance or during transport you should use the bar guard.
Make sure that no one is less than five yards away from you when working with a chain saw. During tree felling, a greater safety distance is required.
